An Edinburgh recruitment consultancy asked us to carry out a complete cost review of their telecommunications and IT facilities and to provide ongoing advice and assistance.

We are, in effect, their part-time telecommunications and IT manager.

Our first task was to understand how their business worked and carry out an audit of their existing facilities.

We then reviewed their service provider bills for fixed line telephones, mobiles and internet.

This enabled us to identify immediate savings and improvements that could be made without making any significant investment in new equipment and without adversely affecting business operations.

For example, we made savings by switching to more cost effective call plans for landlines and mobile phones and removing lines that were not required.

We also identified specific projects that would result in immediate cost savings such as making use of the internet to make some phone calls.

It was also part of our remit to evaluate projects that would have longer-term benefits to the business.

These projects included a better phone system and improved internet access and a better email service in the office.

We are now helping the client implement some of these projects and are continuing to provide advice and assistance by regularly reviewing their telecommunications and IT infrastructure alongside their changing business needs.

The firm’s staff work regularly out of the office, at clients’ offices and at home.

In order to best meet their requirements, we are now looking at the various ways of providing staff with access to their office services when they are not in their office.
